The search feature could be improved however it works fine for what the OP asked for. I picked an LA (most definately part of So Cal) Zip code and searched for spas with in 50 miles. It returned over 350.

I then clicked on the links for Ethnicity and selected "White", that left 16 places with-in 50 miles of the zip I chose.

Have a look. Even if a feature is lacking it doesn't mean it is useless and the OP didn't appear to even make an effort to use it.
